Well, they've done it again.
Now that CBS is broadcasting the Pops Show, they've gone and all screwed-up the show. Used to be the show would have:
- Has Been/Never-was guest vocalists
- Pops-type music
- Patriotic Sing-Along
- 1812 Overture, seguing into
- Fireworks.
Now that's been all bulloxed up to accomodate the CBS network version. So there's a couple of local hours, which end with the 1812 (kick-ass, and you've got to hear it from the begining. Send shivers. And those cannon rock.) The National feed starts with the last four minutes of the 1812, then we get a shortened sing along, some national performers (some country acts - who the heck is Gretchen Wilson, Big & Rich and Cowboy Troy anyway?) who, frankly, we in New England wouldn't listen to on a dare (sorry, but we're kinda uptight about our music up here. We don't really do country), and some awkward segue into the fireworks.
Blah.
It's nice that you all recognize that Boston has the sine qua non of fireworks shows, now go away and let us enjoy it, ok?
On behalf of New England, thank you in advance for your cooperation.

Well, as a country music fan, I would love to see Gretchen Wilson. So would hubby - but for entirely different reasons.
Sorry your show wasn't what you expected.
Oh, I didn't really care about the country music part. I just hate the way they've played with the order, used to be they'd build up with the sing along, "Stars and Stripes Forever" to a crescendo with the 1812, which would blow right into the fireworks. It was killer.
Now the 1812 is kind of anti-climactic.
Oh, I understand. I love 1812. I remember playing it in band.
Yes, I was a band geek.
"This one time . . . at band camp . . ."
Alyson Hannigan is my hero.
Oh, I absolutely LOATHE Big & Rich w/ Cowboy Troy. They've managed to create one of the most annoying songs I've ever had the displeasure to hear. Ugh. Idiots. (Sorry if you're a fan, Callie!)
I'm not a huge fan of fireworks myself, but I do enjoy watching the big displays on television, if the newscasters know enough to shut the hell up. I don't need to hear, "And we're looking at the Arch Riverfront...just look at those fireworks...", you know? Shhh - don't ruin it.
Nope - not a fan of Big & Rich. They have NO talent. LOL. (But I do like Gretchen.)
I don't usually watch fireworks on tv. If I can't see them in person, then forget it.
